Donuts

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup warm milk (110°F)

  • 1 tbsp yeast

  • 1/3 Cup Sugar


  • 2 Eggs

  • 6 tbsp butter melted

  • 1 tsp Vanilla

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 4 Cups flour


  • Approx. 1 to 2 quarts of vegetable oil for frying


Glaze

  • 1 Cup Icing sugar

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla

  • 1/6 Cup / 40ml of milk

Instructions

  1. Whisk the milk, yeast and sugar together

  2. Tightly cover with cling wrap and leave for 5 minutes

  3. Add the eggs, butter, vanilla, nutmeg, salt, and 1/2 of the flour

  4. Beat on a low speed for 1 minute with a dough hook (scrape down the sides with a spatula after 30 seconds)

  5. Add the remaining flour an beat for 4 minutes until though dough pulls away from the sides (add a little flour if needed)

  6. Lightly grease a bowl and put the dough in it, lightly cover and let rise in a warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours until its doubled in size

  7. Punch the dough down to release the air and turn out onto a lightly floured surface

  8. Use a rolling pin to roll out to about 1/2" thick

  9. Cut out donuts and donut holes (combine the left of bits and repeat)

  10. Place the donuts on a piece of parchment paper

  11. Heat the oil in a large pan to 350°F

  12. Fry 2 or 3 donuts at a time for approx. 45 to 60 seconds per side


Glaze

  1. Mix all the ingredients

  2. Dunk the warm donuts into the glaze, allow to set (20 mins)
